The constant search for the feeling of power causes many problems and blinds people to what is really important. In this sense, at work, there are several considerations that must be taken into account in relation to ambition. The unbridled search for something can become a villain, even preventing you from reaching the goal.
Ambition is older than we think, this search for objects, power and recognition has always been innate in human beings. In Lev Tolstói’s work, De How Much the Earth Needs a Man, re-released this month by Edipro’s Via Reading label, he shows that in 1886 ambition was already a topic of discussion.
Based on the article written for the company Catho*, below are the main topics that show the various faces of ambition within the work environment:
Advantages of ambition in the workplace
- It instigates the achievement of above-average goals and successive achievements.
- Increased motivation and self-esteem.
- Makes the person want a career plan and take advantage of opportunities.
- The ambitious stand out more and are more requested for new projects and hired for higher positions.
Disadvantages of Ambition (Greed)
- It traps the person in selfishness and they seek individual goals, generating opportunistic behavior.
- To win at any cost, their actions often turn into amoral and sometimes illicit.
- Characterized by people with low self-esteem, they try to assert themselves all the time and use other people as a springboard to get where they want.
