The traditional Descida da Borges – warm-up of the samba schools for Carnival – takes place this Friday, 27th, from 8 pm. Due to the revitalization and urbanization works of the Quadrilátero Central, the event will have changes. Instead of taking place over three weekends, it will only take place in one night and the carnival workers will not go down the avenue.
A fixed stage, set up on Borges de Medeiros, between Largo Glênio Peres and Praça Montevideo, will have the presentation of the winning schools of last year’s Carnival: Grêmio Recreativo Social Entity Beneficent Cultural Samba School Filhos de Maria (Bronze series champion); Realeza (Silver series champion) and Imperadores do Samba (Gold series champion). The key to the city will also be handed over to King Momo and the sovereigns of Carnival.
transit and transportation
Traffic in the central region will change as of 5 pm this Thursday (26). Avenida Borges de Medeiros – between Glênio Peres and Paço Municipal – will be blocked until the end of the event at dawn on Saturday (28). Public transport will be strengthened.
The detour for drivers traveling in the region will be through Rua Uruguai. Another change will be in relation to the taxi rank located on Borges de Medeiros in front of Lojas Lebes, where the event takes place. As of Thursday night, taxis will be allowed to park on Uruguay Street.
There will be reinforcement in the lines at dawn to serve the public that goes to the event. In addition to the lines that circulate on time and the C5 of Carris, the M10 and M98 will gain an extra trip each. The extra timetable for the M10 will leave Borges de Medeiros, close to Viaduto Otávio Rocha, at 00:40 am and the M98 will leave at 1 am at Salgado Filho corner with Borges de Medeiros.
