The success of the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 in Brazil is the result of a sum of efforts: the Ministry of Health encouraged it, the population joined, and more and more people are protected against the disease. This Wednesday (5), the country exceeded the mark of 390 million doses distributed to the states. As a result, more than 81% of the target population has already managed to take two doses of the immunizer.
The first batch of vaccines this year landed in Brazil on Sunday afternoon (2). The batch comprising 1.1 million doses of Pfizer arrived in the country via Viracopos Airport, in Campinas (SP). It is with this immunizing agent that Brazilians should take the booster dose – which has the recommended application for 4 months after the second dose.
With more and more people vaccinated, the cases of deaths and hospitalizations by Covid-19 continue to fall. As a result, the Ministry of Health has been able to expand the number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds for patients who need care for diseases other than that caused by the coronavirus.
Since the beginning of the campaign, in January last year, more than 330 million doses have been applied. The first dose reached 161.3 million people and the second dose was given to approximately 144 million people. More than 16 million have already taken the additional or booster dose. In 2022, the Ministry of Health will receive more than 354 million doses of vaccines from contracted laboratories.
