In order to verify the quality of the water from the four public fountains located in the urban area of the city, the Gravataí City Hall, through the Vigiagua program, from the Environmental Health Surveillance sector (Viemsa), requested a study of the potability of the waters from the Laboratory Central do Estado (LACEN). The response from the analyses, however, came against the grain of expectations: The water in the four locations is unfit for consumption.
The reports that determine whether the water is suitable for human consumption, point to the presence of the bacterium escherichia coli, responsible for diseases such as urinary infections, diarrhea and hemorrhagic colitis and hemolytic-uremic syndrome.
According to the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment, Sustainability and Animal Welfare (Sema), the sites will be isolated, preventing access by the population and preserving the ecological role. Information boards will also be installed in the next few days on the improper consumption of these spouts.
