The Ministry of Health decided not to require a medical prescription for the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 years against Covid-19. The information was confirmed by government sources and the Federal Supreme Court (STF). There will be a recommendation from the Medical Request Folder, but the document will not be mandatory for the application of doses.

The Court is considering a request by parliamentarians for childhood immunization to begin immediately. The court had already ordered the Ministry to present a timetable, without requiring a medical request.
However, the reporting minister of the case, Ricardo Lewandowski, extended the deadline for the government to present arguments and planning.
The deadline for sending information to the Supreme ends this Wednesday (5). Immunization should start in the second half of this month, with the arrival of doses from Pfizer. The government must present, also on Wednesday, the schedule for the arrival of doses. The decision of the Supreme determines that the immunization take place before the start of classes in schools.
However, the government depends on the arrival of adapted immunizers, since children receive a dose with a smaller amount of the immunizing agent. Around 30 countries around the world, including the United States, have already started vaccinating those aged 11 or younger, fearing an increase in hospitalizations due to the Ômicron variant, which spreads across continents.
