TEBAS OF GLASS: Whoever doesn’t have a glass bowl to stack the first stone is the theatrical performance for the conclusion of year 1 of the Actors Training Course – noite/2022 at Escola Casa de Teatro, an adaptation on the tragedies of Antigone and Oedipus.
The show, which premieres on January 22 at Teatro Hebraica, has a cast of 12 new actresses and actors, is directed by Larissa Sanguiné and Victória Sanguiné, has musical direction by Everton Rodrigues, choreographic direction by Thiago Ruffoni, and dramaturgy by Francisco gick.
The play deals with a reinvention of the Greek myth about the marriage of Jocasta and Oedipus, and the tragic figures involved. It unfolds in a reconfiguration of tragic figures from the perspective of the deconstruction of Greek dramaturgy, recomposing a performative staging, which allows broader readings of the constructions of Greek myth.
Interweaving the tragedies that describe the events that led to the tragic outcome of the characters, spaces for reflection are opened, elaborated in the recomposition of the dramaturgy together with authorial texts of the actresses and actors. Throughout the creation process, the cast was willing to research an analogy between the royalty of the end of the last century and the beginning of the present century, weaving their critical reflections on royalty.
Scenography and costumes are frames of the result of the scenes created, which circulate with the public in two environments, occupying the space of the café, the audience and the stage of Teatro Hebraica, in a scenography proposed by Ricardo Zigomático, in an installation where the public transits.
The musicality of the work is inspired by the Disco sounds of the 1970s, proposing an analogy of an escapism prevailing at the time, which glamorized kings and queens of the night, in an attempt to create another universe, beyond the wars of the decades between 1960 and 1980. This musical environment, together with the analogies proposed for it, inspires the composition of costumes, as well as the choreographic movement of the show.
Synopsis
The show presents an adaptation of the tragedies of Antigone and Oedipus, by Sophocles, using The Phoenicias, by Euripides, as a guiding thread. The deconstructed narrative of the dramaturgies presented by the Greek authors dialogues about the ideas of what tragedies involve, problematizing the tragic elements of royalty, seeking to observe the condition of contemporary society and the current state policies.
