BRASILIA (Reuters) – Health minister Marcelo Queiroga said this Monday afternoon that doses of pediatric vaccine Covid could arrive in Brazil on January 10, noting that the ministry will make a decision on Thursday and that there should be “no special news”.
“As of January 10, these doses may start arriving in Brazil. So, rest assured, all fathers and mothers who want to vaccinate their children between the ages of 5 and 11 can,” he said, in an interview at the ministry’s door.
According to the minister, Pfizer vaccine doses arrive in the country in a week, but must have the batch approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and by the National Institute of Quality Control in Health, to be distributed to states and municipalities before to be effectively used.
In the interview, Queiroga said that the public consultation scheduled for Tuesday to discuss the vaccination of children “is neither a plebiscite nor a referendum” and that the audience will hear members of Conass, Conasems, the Federal Council of Medicine, among others.
The minister did not want to answer about the amount of doses that will be available, noting that it will be enough. He also did not say whether the government would require a medical certificate for childhood vaccinations.
