Tumelero has adopted a fleet of electric vehicles and remains firm with its commitment to reducing CO2 emissions. Recently, the chain added three new electric trucks to its fleet, which will carry out logistics between stores and Distribution Centers, in addition to delivering to end customers in the Greater Porto Alegre region. The network’s plan is to continue advancing until reaching 100% of the electric fleet.
“This is yet another pioneering initiative by Tumelero around Saint-Gobain’s global commitment to reducing emissions. We have a committee that closely monitors the projects and goals,” says William Roselli, EHS / Sustainability manager at Telhanorte Tumelero.
The replacement of combustion trucks with new electric vehicles represents a reduction of 63 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year emitted by the fleet. The trucks will circulate throughout the Greater Porto Alegre region and will be responsible for transporting up to 5 tons per vehicle in logistical operations, such as deliveries or transfers between distribution centers and stores.
In addition to the initiative for its own fleet, Tumelero will now provide a fueling pitstop for electric vehicles at its parent store – at Avenida Assis Brasil, 5577, which can be used by customers. Renewable energies are used for supply and the Chain already has 14 charging points, divided between the Distribution Center, head office and larger stores.
“In line with what we already do in São Paulo, this operation is very important for our purpose, and our customers in Rio Grande do Sul deserved this investment”, observes Ueldson Botelho, the chain’s Transport manager.
