After 530 types of business were released through automatic feasibility and licensing for low-risk activities, since April 2022, by the City Hall of Caxias do Sul, the number of permits issued throughout the year grew by 25%. Last year, the Secretariat for Urban Planning (SMU) issued 7,658 documents, compared to 6,468 issued in 2021.
According to Secretary João Uez, the growth is a reflection of the adoption of measures to speed up service and reduce the bureaucracy for opening new businesses proposed by the Economic Freedom Law. “Based on a joint effort by civil servants, the Municipality eliminated a historic bottleneck and made the opening of developments about seven days more agile. This has only become possible thanks to the dedication of hardworking employees who, on a daily basis, look for ways to speed up the process and, with that, attract new entrepreneurs to the formality”, he explains.
According to the portfolio holder, there is still much to be done, but the steps that have been taken are already having the expected effects. “The environment created by SMU to facilitate obtaining permits and the services provided to make life easier for those wishing to undertake in the Municipality is one of the main reasons for the growth of these numbers. This shows that the work being carried out has contributed to the positive results we are reaping”, he points out.
