Marcelo Queiroga announced this Thursday (30) the delivery of 6,500 new permanent ICU beds in Brazil. In his Twitter account, the Minister of Health said that the investment was R$2.6 billion.
Initially, Queiroga stated that the number of ICU beds in the SUS (Unified Health System) would increase from 23 thousand to 28 thousand – there would be 5,000 new beds. Afterwards, he corrected it and said that there will be 6,500 new ICU vacancies, which represents an increase of 28%.
“An expansion that hadn’t taken place for at least a decade,” he commented.
