Two signs that read “Danger! Inappropriate place for bathing” and “Attention! Entrance and exit of vessels” were installed by teams from the Civil Defense of Canoas, at Praia do Paquetá, this Friday (23). The signs serve to signal and inform people about the contamination of water for bathing and to reinforce safety on site.
According to Secretary of the Environment, Paulo Ritter, assessments of water quality are carried out periodically. Prohibition was determined by teams from Pró-Sinos and the State Foundation for Environmental Protection Henrique Luis Roessler (Fepam). “Much of this pollution is the result of domestic sewage. But the good news is that, in the coming years, with the partnership of the City Hall with Corsan and Empresa Metrosul Ambiental, the sewage treatment, which is already being carried out, will improve the quality of our rivers”.
According to the Secretary of Civil Defense, Igor Souza, the signs, in addition to serving to guide people about the inappropriate place for bathing, will help to maintain the safety of Canoenses. “In 2021, two drownings took place in Praia do Paquetá and in the Gravataí River, which borders Canoas and Porto Alegre. We know that until the firefighters or Samu teams arrive at the scene, it takes some time and this can harm the rescue time. In addition, as there are no lifeguards on site, it is important to reinforce prevention”.
