The traditional Watermelon Fair began on Tuesday (20th) in Taquara. Held on Rua Coberta, rural producers in the Municipality sell the fruit produced on properties in the countryside at special prices. The event is promoted by the Municipality of Taquara, through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development. “These are watermelons of different sizes and of excellent quality, cultivated with great commitment by our farmers. The entire community is invited to attend”, highlights Mayor Sirlei Silveira.
The trade in watermelons is carried out daily from 8am to 6pm, until January 30th. The value of the fruit varies according to its size, from 15 reais. “Taquara is a city where watermelon cultivation allows for a large harvest. The fair is a way to motivate producers to continue in this activity, in addition to encouraging consumers and local businesses”, points out the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development, Gilson Redin.
In addition to the Watermelon Fair, for next month, on January 21, the Family Farming Fair is also scheduled to take place on Rua Coberta. In it, rural producers will take cakes, cakes, cheeses, sweets, jellies, among other items produced by family farming in Taquara.
