Telegram received a new update that brought a series of changes and improvements. And one of the main changes is that now you will no longer need a phone number to create an account and register in the instant messaging application.
The new updates on Telegram
Telegram is among the five most downloaded applications in the world and is already a giant in instant messaging. With over 700 million users active in 2022, the app is gaining more and more prominence and organic growth, mainly because it is seen as a more reliable and private alternative.
In three years, Telegram gained more than 350 million new users – in January 2021 alone, the app registered 25 million new accounts in 72 hours.
O Telegram was blocked in Brazil on March 17, 2022, following a decision by the Federal Supreme Court), mainly due to allegations that the app did not adequately cooperate with investigations and requests from Brazilian authorities.
After being allowed in the country again, Telegram continued to gain users in Brazil and, despite still being behind WhatsApp, it is already the fastest growing instant messaging app in the country.
interesting changes
Telegram grows and disputes more and more space with instant messaging competitors like WhastApp. The new update released on December 8, 2022 updated the app to version 9.2.1 on iOS devices and 9.2.2 us android devices.
Among the main updates, Telegram now has a new user registration system, new group organization and new emoji packages.
Users can also now set up the auto-delete feature for all chats, making it easier to delete unwanted messages and chats.
Registration without phone number
The most significant change to Telegram is that it no longer requires a SIM (Subscriber Identify Module) number, meaning you will no longer need to enter a phone number when registering. .
This change ensures more privacy for users. But there is still the possibility of using the phone number for registration in the app and also to help with two-factor verification.
Users also now have the option to log in using anonymous numbers based on blockchain technology provided by the Fragment platform.
Premium resources
In addition to all the features for regular users, subscribing to Telegram’s premium service offers exclusive benefits such as the ability to send files up to 4GB in size, faster download rates, exclusive stickers and emojis, and more dynamic management of chats and groups .
And, to top it off, premium users can also join up to 1000 channels and organize up to 20 chat folders (and each folder can hold up to 200 chats), pin up to 10 chats to a main listing, among other things – such as animated photos for the profile, for example.
New interactive and custom emojis
Another change for Telegram is the addition of 10 emoji packs for premium users, which gives users even more expressions for messages, reactions and statuses.
And on top of that, there are now interactive emojis, which have synchronized effects for you and the person you’re chatting with. All Telegram users can use these new emoji reactions.
Advantages and disadvantages
The new changes to Telegram are, in general, very positive: they guarantee more dynamism for communications, more tools for users and a greater level of privacy.
Despite this, it is worth alerting to a series of dangers to the digital security and information of users. Even though it is more private and has great encryption technology, Telegram is not completely secure and is highly targeted by cybercriminals who use the application to spread malware and practice scams (virtual scams).
Another point is that the Fragment platform is not free. To register without using a phone number, the user needs to buy a combination through a virtual auction or a randomly generated number – a cheaper option, but still paying.
In addition, registering the phone number helps to protect your account through two-factor authentication mechanisms.
