The rapid spread of the omicron variant of the coronavirus has led to a return to restrictions in several countries. Switzerland decided to postpone the holding of the World Economic Forum, which traditionally takes place at the beginning of the year, in Davos.
In Holland, this Monday was the first working day with a lockdown — which will last, at least, until January 14th.
Concerned about the advance of the omicron variant across the continent, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has approved the use of Novavax’s vaccine against covid-19, in people aged 18 years and over.
In Israel, travel to the United States and several European countries is prohibited, unless there is a reason considered essential by the authorities. The Israeli government has registered nearly 150 cases of omicron in the country.
In the UK, there are at least 12 deaths caused by omicron and more than 100 hospitalizations of patients with the variant.
The director-general of the World Health Organization, WHO – recommended government officials to cancel or postpone events scheduled for Christmas, to avoid aggravating the crisis.
