The Ministry of Health announced, this Friday (10.dez), that it will postpone for seven days the beginning of the collection of proof of vaccination for entry into Brazilian territory. By decision of the Ministry, unvaccinated visitors will need to fulfill a quarantine of five days before entering the country. The measure would go into effect this Saturday (11.dec), but was postponed after the ministry’s systems suffered a hacker attack.
At a press conference, Rodrigo Moreira da Cruz, the ministry’s executive secretary, provided clarification on the attack and suggested alternatives to the proof of vaccination available on the ConnectSUS application — which was unavailable after the invasion. Among them are the use of the physical card, the second copy of the card and access to their own systems in states and municipalities.
According to the government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) made itself available to inform all countries that will receive flights from Brazil, in the coming days, about the problem for issuing the digital certificate and to suggest the acceptance of the physical card. The hacker attack affected not only the system for issuing the digital receipt, but also the one that regulates the lines for surgeries, transplantation and the ministry’s interns who are used for document procedures. However, in these other cases, they were promptly re-established.
Regarding what remains off the air, said the executive secretary of the folder, its team and the company that provides information technology services to it are “working intensively to be able to restore this as quickly as possible.” The seven-day postponement for the beginning of mandatory compliance with the five-day quarantine was decided, in his words, “for the sake of security”. “Eventually there is a Brazilian who is abroad and has not downloaded this system. So, at first, it was considered interesting to postpone it for seven days. We don’t know how long it will take for the bases to be available for consultation with all the systems restored”, he added.
Also according to Rodrigo da Cruz, the government understands that “this one week will not generate a very significant change in the epidemiological situation”. The Executvo still doesn’t know whether or not there was data loss with the dawn attack. The case is being investigated by the Federal Police (PF) and the Institutional Security Office of the Presidency of the Republic (GSI).
