The Ulbra Chamber Orchestra will hold a solidarity concert on Sunday, June 16th, at 11am at Comunidade Evangelica de Confessão Luterana São Lucas (Rua Luiz Voelcker, 285 – Três Figueiras, Porto Alegre). As a way to raise donations for flood victims, the concert will be free with the delivery of non-perishable food.
Conducted by Tiago Flores, the program will be dedicated to the work of two of the greatest composers of the Classical period and the history of Western music: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791) and Franz Joseph Haydn (1732 – 1809). Together they embody the so-called Viennese Classicism.
The presentation begins with the performance of Divertimento in Bb, by Mozart – who composed several works in this musical genre. With many examples in the 18th century, the divertissements are generally composed for chamber orchestra and portray, with a happy mood, social jokes and games.
The next is Symphony No. 29, in Lá MK 201 – one of the most interesting and refined to emerge from the composer’s fertile period, between 1772 and 1774. Faithful to the classical Viennese model, the work is an example of charming writing, which entertains and enchants . In addition to the strings, a pair of oboes and a pair of horns participate. The economy of instruments, however, in no way limits or impedes its symphonic character.
The concert ends with Symphony No. 45 – The Farewell, by Haydn. One of the composer’s most famous symphonies, the work became known due to its last movement, in which, throughout the performance, the instrumentalists stop playing and, one at a time, close the scores and leave the stage – until There are only two violinists left, who finally leave one after the other. It is said that Haydn wanted to attract Prince Eszterhazy’s attention, as the musicians were coming from an extended stay away from home and needed to return to see their families. The Ulbra Chamber Orchestra will perform this piece in the same format proposed by Haydn, with the musicians leaving the stage one by one.
