The Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra (OSPA) suspended the 2024 Artistic Season events that were scheduled for June. The decision takes place in the midst of the state of public calamity that Rio Grande do Sul is experiencing. The concerts “Broadway Classics” and “Danza di Terra”, the opera “La Bohéme” and a recital from the Chamber Music Series were planned. New dates for the events will be announced soon. Information about refunds for tickets to the “Danza di Terra” concert, on June 14, can be found in the service below.
Currently, the management of the OSPA Foundation is studying new date possibilities for the suspended concerts and is awaiting the release of access to the Fernando Ferrari Administrative Center (CAFF), a place affected by flooding and where the OSPA House is located. In addition to concerts, all in-person activities at the OSPA House remain suspended, such as rehearsals and visits to the OSPA Memorial. The OSPA School, located in Palacinho, in the center of Porto Alegre, also has classes and other face-to-face activities suspended.
OSPA visits shelters
With the purpose of bringing comfort to people who are homeless after the floods in Rio Grande do Sul, the Fundação Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre began a series of visits to shelters in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. The first meeting took place last Tuesday (28/05), in a shelter in the Rio Branco neighborhood, in Porto Alegre. With instruments in hand, violinists Paulo Barcelos and Geraldo Moori, violist Delmar Breunig and cellist Deolindo de Azambuja performed popular songs, Gaucho songs and children’s songs.
The meeting is part of the Emergency Cultural Actions Network, an initiative of the State Secretariat for Culture that brings music, literature, cinema and visual arts to people left homeless by the floods. Over the next few days, OSPA and other Sedac-RS institutions will continue to carry out free activities aimed at people in the accommodation. More information is available on the Sedac-RS website.
