Doctors are concerned about the risk of complications in patients who use a stent, a small metal mesh tube used to keep narrowed or blocked coronary arteries open. It is inserted during a medical procedure to restore adequate blood flow to the heart. It is crucial for preventing heart attacks and improving heart function in patients with coronary artery disease.
The president of the Cardiology Society of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (SOCCERGS), Luis Beck da Silva, highlights that stopping these medications can lead to serious complications.
“All medications for continuous use are important. However, there are situations with a very high risk of short-term complications. One of them is to go without AAS and Clopidogrel after placing a stent/coil in the heart, especially in the first few months, due to the risk of thrombosis (new heart attack)”, he states.
Volunteer Medical Care
For those who were left homeless, the profile on the social network “Cardiologistas na Enchente” was developed by cardiologists, which aims to provide online medical care to the affected population, coordinated by volunteer doctors and the participation of several associates.
Initially, a link is sent to the patient to fill out a short form with their health status, their complaint, or the need to renew their prescription. By contacting a specialist, an online consultation is carried out. More information about the initiative can be found on Instagram by searching the profile “Cardiologistas na Enchente”
