Pumps are in operation in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre to help drain water from the floods that occurred this month of May in Rio Grande do Sul. This Saturday, May 25th, new equipment donated by rice farmers and companies through the Drenar RS project entered into operation in the Porto Alegre Airport region. Furthermore, in the municipality of Novo Hamburgo, in Vale do Sinos, pumps are also already operating. The volunteers are working together with municipal public authorities and bodies, such as, in Porto Alegre, the Municipal Department of Water and Sewage (DMAE).
The Federation of Rice Growers Associations of Rio Grande do Sul (Federarroz) mobilized rice growers, companies and technicians to participate voluntarily and unite in this aid effort. The objective of this action is to increase the pumping capacity out of your dikes so that drainage time is significantly reduced. The entity believes that the rice sector with its floating pumping systems can and should assist in this humanitarian action. “The rice sector, through the experience and equipment it has, was ready to contribute to Rio Grande do Sul society in draining water”, highlighted the president of Federarroz, Alexandre Velho.
The Drenar RS project includes Federarroz and companies such as WR, InfoSafras, Gebras, Agropecuária Canoa Mirim, Exponent, Numerik, CCM, Garanto, Grupo Cavalhada, Instituto Caldeira and Idealiza, along with other volunteers. Companies such as Agrimec, SLC John Deere, Sotrima Massey Fergusson, Grupo Ceolin and Tomasetto Engenharia also voluntarily assisted in the action, in addition to the Army’s help with logistics. The objective is to use the pumps in the issue of water drainage, seeking to benefit more than 500 thousand homeless people and reduce the draining time of flooded cities, through a voluntary mobilization of support for local authorities.
