Brazil surpassed the mark of 5 million probable cases of dengue in 2024. The data is present in the most recent update of the Arbovirus Monitoring Panel, supplied with a database from the Ministry of Health.
The exact number, to date, is 5,100,766 cases, a historic record that exceeds even the government’s most pessimistic predictions. In January, the Ministry of Health released an estimate that could vary between 1.9 million and 4.2 million.
In addition to the total number of cases, 2,827 people have already died due to the disease, also a record – the number represents the highest number of deaths since 2000, and already exceeds the entire year 2023 (1,094 deaths).
Among the regions with the most probable cases of dengue, Minas Gerais leads the ranking, with 1,431,174. São Paulo (1,387,796) and Paraná (535,433) appear in second and third place, respectively. The Federal District is fifth on the list, with 254,586 cases.
