In a gesture of solidarity and quick response to the recent floods that affected our state, the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) announced the suspension of all its classes between the 6th and 11th of May. This measure covers in-person, hybrid and synchronous online classes at all levels of education, including undergraduate, specializations, MBA, master’s, doctorate, as well as language courses and certifications.
This decision comes at a critical time, when the local community needs unity and intensive support. In recent days, PUCRS has been a pillar of strength, mobilizing resources and efforts to help those in vulnerable situations. University teams are actively involved in offering essential support to those most in need, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to the well-being of the community.
The University Sports Park is functioning as one of the main shelters for the homeless in Porto Alegre and the Metropolitan Region. On Saturday, May 4th, the place was prepared with volunteers and all the necessary donations to serve the affected people. The university will continue to update the community about new needs and how to help through its official channels.
Furthermore, PUCRS calls for solidarity. Other donations are still needed and can be made at the specified locations in this linkwhich links to the university’s official fundraising campaign page.
PUCRS’ commitment to flood victims is reflected not only in the suspension of academic activities, but also in its active participation in aid and recovery initiatives. The university reinforces that all changes and updates will be communicated through its official channels, including the website www.pucrs.br and the account @pucrs no Instagram.
In times of crisis, unity is strength. PUCRS is demonstrating its vital role not only as an educational institution, but as a supportive and resilient community. This is a time for all of us to reflect on how we can contribute to the recovery and continued support of the victims of this natural tragedy. If you would like to help, please consider donating or volunteering through the channels provided by the university. Together we can make the difference.
