Six Brazilian states have been facing a heat wave – when the temperature is 5°C above average for a period of three to five days – for more than five days. As a result, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) changed, this Thursday (2/5), the alert level from orange to red — the highest on a scale of three — of “great danger” to health.
The phenomenon is expected to last until Saturday (4/5), according to the institute’s meteorological warning. Inmet changes the alert level when the observed region has a temperature 5ºC above average for a period longer than five days.
In total, the heat wave affects 694 municipalities in the states of: Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná and São Paulo.

During this period of high temperatures and thermal sensations, it is recommended that the population avoid exercising during the hottest period of the day (from 10 am to 4 pm), hydrate frequently and use sunscreen.
