The exhibition “Pictorial impressions of sums and subtractions”, by artist Marli Takeda, is at the University Gallery of the Campus-Headquarters of the University of Caxias do Sul – UCS – until May 23. It is curated by the coordinator of Visual Arts courses at UCS, professor Silvana Boone.
The artist’s production is guided by sustainability and the reuse of materials in participatory actions with different audiences and places. At the Headquarters Campus, visitors will be able to interact with the work by applying reused stickers, available in the space, on the Gallery’s glass.
Marli Takeda’s work is referenced by characteristics of its oriental origin and abstractions of drawn and painted lines, superimposed or removed, and presents a pictorial set using the canvas as support. The artist gives new meaning to the concepts of addition and subtraction obtained from a unique process that involves the use of reused stickers.
The artist is from Presidente Prudente (SP) and is the granddaughter of Japanese parents. For more than ten years, she has been reusing adhesive films collected from museums and print shops, cut one by one and applied during her research process on different supports, moving between painting, drawing, sculpture, site specific and interactive installation.
