The New Balance 42K Porto Alegre will bring together around 7 thousand runners on the streets of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul on April 28th. Anyone who wants to participate can still register for the four distances on the schedule (5k, 10k, 21k and 42k), but in limited numbers. The race in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul offers one of the biggest prizes in street racing in the country, with R$190 thousand in total.
Kits can be purchased at official site and they are already in the third and final batch, with values of R$235.00 + taxes for the 5k and 10k distances, and R$265.00 + taxes for the half marathon (21k) and marathon (42k).
Golden Lake
The New Balance 42K Porto Alegre base, in the Golden Lake neighborhood, will feature an Expo with several attractions, including lectures on running and a special New Balance store, where runners will be able to try on and buy items from the brand’s performance line.
With the aim of becoming one of the main races on the national calendar, the New Balance 42K Porto Alegre has an approved route to be the fastest marathon in the country, attracting not only the main elite athletes, but also thousands of running enthusiasts in seeking to achieve personal bests.
With only 19 meters of elevation gain, on a flat route that will run through the central region and the banks of Lake Guaiba, the marathon will start at the Monument to the Expeditionary, in Parque Farroupilha, and will pass through important regions and points of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, such as the Center Historic, Public Market, Laçador Monument, Porto Wharf, Monument to the Azoreans, Tesourinha Gymnasium, Beira-Rio Stadium, among others. The finish will take place in the Golden Lake neighborhood, where the half marathon and the 10K and 5K races will also start and finish.
With a faster route, if the winner of the race breaks the best marks already established in the history of marathons in the country, there will be a bonus of R$100 thousand (KTO offer). Furthermore, if the record is broken by a Brazilian athlete, there will be an extra prize worth R$80 thousand. If the feat is achieved in both male and female categories, the values will be divided in half. The reference times were established by Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima in 2011 (2h11m19s), and by Kenyan Rumokol Chepkanam in 2012 (2h31m21s).
