The Theatro São Pedro Orchestra presents the show Carmen sings Callas, kicking off the 2024 season, which promises great attractions. Accompanied by maestro Evandro Matté, Brazilian soprano Carmen Monarcha will be the star of the night with operas that marked the brief career of Maria Callas (1923-1977), one of the most emblematic and influential lyrical voices of the 20th century.
This musical tribute will take place on March 21st, at 8pm, at Theatro São Pedro. The concert promises to be an emotional journey through the legacy of Callas, known as La Divina for the drama and exceptional technique of her performances. The program includes notable excerpts from Bizet’s Opera Carmen, Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, and works by Puccini, Bellini and Cilea.
In Porto Alegre, the public will be able to watch an unprecedented version of the work, which is now accompanied by the Theatro São Pedro Orchestra and the artistic direction of Matté. The concert marks Carmen’s reunion with Matté and the Theatro São Pedro Orchestra after almost three years. They were on stage together in May 2021 at the Mother’s Day edition of the Zaffari Community Concerts.
On the opening night, the complete Orquestra Theatro São Pedro program for this year will also be launched. The public will be able to learn details about the Theatro São Pedro Series Concerts, which will feature ten attractions held monthly, including an opera and presentations with a diverse repertoire, covering different periods of concert music, in addition to bringing approaches to the pop and jazz universe.
