Bill 271/24 provides for free toxicological tests for professional drivers. The text, under analysis in the Chamber of Deputies, changes the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB) and the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT).
The idea is that professional drivers can take the toxicological tests required by the Unified Health System (SUS). If they are hired under a work regime governed by the CLT, the exams must be paid for by the employers.
The author of the proposal, deputy Felipe Saliba (PRD-MG), argued that the Traffic Code was recently changed and now requires a toxicological exam to obtain a National Driving License and for its renewal in categories C, D and E.
“These changes imposed high costs on several categories of drivers, such as truck drivers and bus drivers, who now have to carry out this toxicological test with certain frequency,” he said. Saliba refers to Laws 14,071/20 and 14,440/22.
