Blumenau, in Santa Catarina, is a protagonist in the beer world. Brazilian Beer Week began on Friday (1), with the award of the Brazilian Beer Commendation and the announcement of the newly formed International Federation of Beer Competitions. The seed was planted last year, at the sector’s 1st International Conference, also in the city known as the Brazilian Capital of Beer.
These are competitions from countries with a strong beer culture and which, together, aim to make the drink even better known around the world. “Our Federation has organizers from Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia and Uruguay. Soon we will have more additions and news to the market”, says Develon da Rocha, president of the Brazilian Beer Week, which also includes the Brazilian Beer Competition, whose awards ceremony, next Wednesday (6), will recognize the winners chosen from among 4,147 samples registered from all over the country.
The event includes the Brazilian Beer Festival, in parallel to the SC Gourmet, focused on gastronomy, and the International Beer Congress (CONIB), all in Vila Germânica, between March 7th and 9th.
Martin Boan, organizer of the South Beer Cup and the Argentine Beer Cup, celebrated the creation of the entity in his speech. “It is an unprecedented union, which demonstrates the maturity of this segment that becomes more united and widespread every day”, he said during the awarding of the award, which recognized prominent entities in the beer world.
The Brazilian Gustavo Miranda, chemical engineer and master brewer, the Chilean Jaime Ojeda, the entity Private Brauereien, which protects, endorses and organizes the excellence of family breweries in Germany, the Englishman Ronald Pattinson and the Blumenauense Heinrich Hosang, in a posthumous tribute, were honored. . A German immigrant who arrived in Blumenau in 1858, he was responsible for one of the first breweries in Brazil. They were announced by Douglas Merlo, technical coordinator of the Contest.
Representing the federal government, federal deputy Ana Paula Lima, and Luciano Boico, coordinator of Strategic Coordination at Embratur, recognized and celebrated the importance of the moment, alongside Emilio Schramm, president of Sindilojas Blumenau, and Ionita Lunelli, regional manager of Sebrae/SC.
