A medical error led to a 41-year-old man having the wrong surgery. Instead of having his gallbladder operated on, Jorge Base underwent a vasectomy. The case took place at the Florencio Díaz Provincial Hospital, in Córdoba, Argentina.
According to information from El Doce TV, the doctors claim to have made the mistake due to the change in the date of the procedure. The operation was supposed to take place on February 20th, but was transferred by the health unit itself to last Wednesday (28th).
According to the hospital, there are no gallbladder operations on Wednesdays.
– He fell onto the vasectomy pile and without asking anything they took him to the operating room – declared the prosecution lawyer, Diego Larrey.
Upon waking up from surgery and discovering the vasectomy, the patient felt “irritable and helpless”.
– I am angry and helpless because what they did has already been done, there is no going back. What goes through your head are countless questions. I don’t understand how they can reach such negligence, such a huge mistake. It’s very strange because my folder said gallbladder everywhere, you just had to read it, it’s not very scientific. I don’t want to point the finger, but no one here took responsibility – said the victim, who underwent the correct surgery after the medical error.
Father of two boys, Jorge Base also states that one of his greatest wishes was to have a daughter with his wife and that this dream was taken away from him.
