The Ministry of Health recorded more than one million cases of dengue, including confirmed and probable, in 2024.
The milestone was reached this Thursday, February 29th.
1,017,278 cases have been registered to date, compared to 207,475 in the same period in 2023.
Of the total cases, 214 led to death. Another 687 deaths are under investigation.

Emergency in São Paulo
The number of dengue cases in the city of São Paulo in less than two months in 2024 already exceeds the total recorded in the capital of São Paulo in the previous year.
16,001 cases of dengue were reported in São Paulo until February 21, the eighth epidemiological week, compared to 14,398 throughout 2023.
The data are from the Municipal Health Department.
According to data released by the same body, six administrative districts are in an epidemic situation. The districts of Itaquera, Jaçanã, Anhanguera, São Domingos, Jaguara and Vila Leopoldina had an incidence rate above 300 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.
This data is provisional and was updated until February 21st. The incidence coefficient is a criterion used by the Ministry of Health to classify the disease in relation to the population.
When the coefficient is less than 100 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, the incidence is considered low. Between 100 and 300 cases, the incidence is considered average. Already above 300 cases, the incidence is considered high.
Dengue cases by district
The Jaguara district recorded the highest incidence of dengue in the city, with a coefficient of 2,521.1 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.
Next come the districts of São Domingos (524.8), Jaçanã (517.6), Vila Leopoldina (446.1), Itaquera (425.2) and Anhanguera (326.6). The district of São Miguel, located in the east of the city, is also close to the epidemic condition, with an incidence of 299.8 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.
In three weeks of 2024, more cases were recorded than the peak of 2023
These were the weeks of January 21st to 27th, January 28th to February 3rd, and February 4th to 10th.
All recorded just over 130,000 probable cases, as it is called in official statistics, while the peak week of 2023 had 11,840.
The Central-West leads the ranking of regions with the highest incidence of Dengue in the country, followed by the Southeast. In the Central-West, the Federal District records the highest number of probable cases, with 80,979 occurrences. In the Southeast, Minas Gerais leads with more than 230 thousand cases, more than double that recorded by São Paulo, the second state in the region with the highest number of cases.
