On the afternoon of Friday, March 1st, Nova Petrópolis will receive a delegation of 19 people from its sister city, Emmelshausen, located in Germany. This visit, which runs until March 6th, is an opportunity for visitors to participate in the celebrations of the 69th anniversary of Nova Petrópolis, as well as the bicentenary of German Immigration in Brazil. During their stay, the delegation will have a full agenda of events and scheduled visits.
Emmelshausen, located in the Hunsrück region in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany, established brotherly ties with Nova Petrópolis in 2019. Members of the German delegation will include Emmelshausen councilor Alfred Muders, who plays a significant role in strengthening this fraternal relationship. Muders had already visited Nova Petrópolis in May 2023, where he discussed preparations for this 2024 trip together with Mayor Jorge Darlei Wolf.
During their stay in Nova Petrópolis, the German delegation will make several visits to tourist attractions in the city, such as Parque Aldeia do Imigrante and Ninho das Águias. Receptions will also take place in public establishments, such as City Hall, the Enio Spier School and the Bárbara Maix Basic Health Unit.
On Saturday, March 2nd, at 3pm, the German delegation will participate in the inauguration of a monument commemorating the Bicentenary at Esculturas Parque Pedras do Silêncio. The work was designed in partnership with German artist Hermann Josef Wilhelm and represents a tribute to the journey of the first German immigrants and their legacy of contributions to the construction of Brazil. More than three meters high, the monument features inscriptions in German and Portuguese, symbolizing the idea that “life takes us along unexpected paths, and that we must embrace these detours on our journey”.
On Sunday, March 3, the delegation of visitors will be present at the shows that will celebrate the anniversary of Nova Petrópolis, starting at 5 pm, on Rua Coberta.
On Monday, March 4, at 3:30 pm, a plaque in honor of Emmelshausen will be unveiled next to the Monument to the Brotherhood, in Praça Theodor Amstad, in Linha Imperial. The site already has tributes dedicated to the sister cities of Sunchales, in Argentina, and Jablonec nad Nisou, in the Czech Republic.
Retribution
Still in 2024, a delegation from Nova Petrópolis will reciprocate Emmelshausen, visiting the sister city during the Weinfest (Wine Festival) festivities, on the 24th and 25th of August. On the occasion, a monument in honor of Nova Petrópolis will be inaugurated, located on one of the roundabouts of the city’s main avenue.
