The 8th edition of Museum Night, which will take place on May 18th, celebrating International Museum Day, has extended the registration deadline for artists. This annual event, famous for opening around 20 cultural spaces in Porto Alegre for free visitation, will take place from 6pm until midnight, presenting a variety of artistic expressions.
Professionals in the areas of music, theater, dance, circus, soiree, slam, storytelling and photography can register until March 15th. Registration is free and carried out exclusively through the websitenoitedosmuseus.com.br/editais. Artists can compete in three categories: performing arts, music and visual arts. In the music category, a 100% original repertoire is required, covering genres such as instrumental, classical and popular. In the visual arts category, 30 photographs will be selected under the theme “Porto Alegre Natural – The vivid colors of the capital” for an exhibition in a large photo gallery, opened on the night of the event.
Candidates must be legal entities or individual micro-entrepreneurs (MEI) with activities related to the mentioned artistic categories. Those selected will receive financial support ranging from R$700.00 to R$2,700.00. The event’s artistic council will be responsible for choosing the presentations, based on criteria such as artistic quality, authenticity and potential impact on the public.
Museum Night also promises new features in this year’s visiting circuit, including new spaces that will be announced soon. The 16 cultural institutions that participated in 2023 have already confirmed their presence again, including renowned places such as the UFRGS Cultural Center and the São Pedro Theater.
Since its debut in Porto Alegre, the event has attracted around 578 thousand people, with an increasing number of participants each year. In 2023, the event registered more than 185 thousand visitors. Continuing its successful trajectory, Noite dos Museus maintained its connection with the public even during the pandemic, holding a virtual edition in 2020 with eight hours of live broadcast directly from the museums. In addition, the event has a portal,noitedosmuseus.com.br, which offers exclusive content about art and culture.
The Music, Visual Arts and Performing Arts notices are an initiative of the Instituto Noite dos Museus and the Ministry of Culture, with planning and production by Rompecabezas and financing by the Federal Government’s Culture Incentive Law.
