Nova Petrópolis celebrates the 69th anniversary of emancipation on February 28th, Wednesday. Among the actions that will mark the passing of the date, Rua Coberta will host shows by Banda Passarela and the duo Sandro and Cícero on Sunday, March 3, at 5pm. The musical performances are part of the Summer program at Jardim da Serra Gaúcha.
The emergence of Nova Petrópolis dates back long before emancipation, in 1858, when Emperor D. Pedro II created a provincial colony in the current municipal territory, motivating the installation of the first families of German immigrants. Nova Petrópolis became a district of São Sebastião do Caí in 1875. The emancipation law was enacted in December 1954 and the Municipality was effectively installed on February 28, 1955, a date that became considered the anniversary.
Over the course of 69 years, the Municipality of the Hortênsias Region came to be known as Jardim da Serra Gaúcha, in addition to obtaining the titles of National Capital of Cooperatives, International City of Folklore IOV Brasil, Educating City and State Capital of Meliponiculture.
“This beautiful Municipality and the honorable titles it holds are the result of a lot of work, faith and determination on the part of the community. We are proud of this history and are inspired by it to design the Nova Petrópolis of the future. And as for the present, the time is to be grateful and celebrate this special date, which is the anniversary”, says the mayor of Nova Petrópolis, Jorge Darlei Wolf.
