VACCINATION
Vaccination against dengue has begun in at least six of the ten states selected by the Ministry of Health to receive the initial batch of 712 thousand doses. The distribution of dengue vaccines to 315 municipalities began on February 8th.
According to a survey by Agência Brasil, vaccination began in the Federal District and Goiás, two of the regions with the highest rates of contamination, and also in the capitals Campo Grande (MS), Salvador (BA), São Luís (MA) and Rio Branco ( B.C). In Natal (RN) and João Pessoa (PB), vaccination is expected to start this Monday (19).
In the state of São Paulo, the municipality of Itaquaquecetuba, belonging to the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo and Alto Tietê, began vaccination this Monday (19).
The state of Amazonas has not yet announced when immunization will begin.
NEGLIGENCE OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
In July last year, the Lula government claimed to honor the production of the national vaccine, from the Butantan Institute, which did not even have a scheduled date for the completion of its research. In other words, with no perspective to be approved and ready, in fact. As a result, the Unified Health System (SUS) had no other option: it was left without receiving a dengue vaccine.
The Lula government’s decision triggered a record outbreak of the disease across the country. The number of cases in the first two weeks of this year alone was more than double that recorded in the same period last year: 55.8 thousand probable cases.
