Porto Alegre becomes the stage for the innovative 1st National Childhood Culture Conference, scheduled for the 24th and 25th of February. This pioneering event, an initiative of the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the National Childhood Culture Working Group, aims to emphasize the importance of children’s cultural rights and their active role in cultural production. The conference will serve as preparation for the 4th National Culture Conference, scheduled to take place from March 4th to 8th in Brasília, with the presence of Márcio Tavares and Márcia Rollemberg from MinC.
The meeting will bring together a diverse audience, including children aged 2 to 12, educators, childhood activists, artists and various cultural agents dedicated to the world of children in Brazil. The program includes activities such as active listening to children, screening of children’s films, debates on the trajectory of public policies aimed at Childhood Culture and a final plenary, where children’s perceptions will be the focus.
Márcia Rollemberg, Secretary of Citizenship and Cultural Diversity, highlights the importance of listening to children and including their perspectives in the formulation of cultural policies. She highlights the need to address childhood as a central axis and ensure their effective participation in the review of the National Cultural Plan. For Márcia, understanding the cultural diversity of children is crucial to building a more inclusive society that respects differences.
Karen Acioly, from the National Group for Childhood Culture, and Emídio Sanderson, highlight the relevance of integrating Childhood Culture into national cultural policies. They emphasize that the inclusion of children in cultural debates is fundamental for the recognition of their cultural identities and for the construction of a richer and more diverse culture.
Children’s presence at the conference is seen as essential to developing policies that will directly influence their lives, bringing their visions and desires to the forefront. The National Childhood Culture Group, made up of a network of artists, researchers, managers and cultural producers from various regions of Brazil, comes together around the common objective of promoting state cultural policies for childhood.
This thematic meeting on Childhood Culture is an opportunity to reflect on the needs and aspirations of children, guiding the formulation of Brazilian cultural policies for the next decade. Three proposals will be selected at this stage and forwarded for discussion at the national stage.
Registration is open to the public and can be made here.
