As part of the Bento em Vindima program, the 10th Wine Marathon will take place on Sunday, February 18th. The 1800 registered athletes will travel through the vineyards of Bento Gonçalves, Monte Belo do Sul and Garibaldi on the following routes: Wine Marathon (42,195 meters), Relays (44,030 meters), Half Marathon (21,040 meters), Wine Race (7 km) , Walk against Drugs (7 km).
At Vino Stops, located along the routes, participants will be able to recharge with typical products from the region. There will also be dance performances, among other attractions. All athletes will receive a participation medal, and the first five to win the events will win trophies, champagne and a percentage of their body weight in wine. The Marathon also rewards the best characterized participants according to the Grape and Wine theme.
The first edition of the event took place in 2008 and is on the calendar of the Gaucho Athletics Federation and on the Official Calendar of Events of Bento Gonçalves.
The event’s creator and organizer, Gregorio Lavandoski, talks about the success of the race between the vine scenes. “The Wine Marathon, its success, is due to many factors. We are in a privileged region that is Vale dos Vinhedos, we have grape producers and the tastings are carried out during the Harvest period. It is a different, festive event, focused on gastronomy, parties, and this year, we are paying homage to Gaucho Traditions. It is among the ten most remembered marathons in Brazil and the main marathon runners come to run here from different states, traveling all over the world for a competition. The Wine Marathon is already renowned as it is in its tenth edition and a lot is also due to the partnerships with companies and city halls”.
