The election of the Municipal Environmental Urban Development Council (CMDUA), originally scheduled for this Thursday, 18th, was postponed due to the severe weather that affected Porto Alegre on the night of Tuesday, 16th. The decision was taken in consideration of residents of the city, particularly those in Planning Region 4, which were affected by the severe weather. The emergency situation led the electoral commission to postpone the vote, which is now scheduled for February 27th, maintaining the same time, from 5pm to 8pm, and location: Centro Social Marista de Porto Alegre – Cesmar (Estrada Antônio Severino, 1493, Mario Quintana neighborhood).
The decision was formalized in an extra edition of Official Gazette of Porto Alegre. The Secretary of the Environment, Urbanism and Sustainability, Germano Bremm, justified the postponement as a necessary measure to ensure that all interested parties can participate in the council election.
Bremm highlighted the high citizen participation in previous votes and emphasized the importance of respecting residents at this difficult time. The CMDUA Electoral Commission, after consulting those responsible for the polling location and the council candidates, decided to postpone the vote in region 4 until the end of February.
Planning Region 4 includes the neighborhoods Bom Jesus, Chácara das Pedras, Jardim Carvalho, Jardim do Salso, Jardim Sabará, Mário Quintana, Morro Santana, Três Figueiras and Vila Jardim.
CMDUA elections, also known as the Master Plan Council, take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5pm to 8pm, in the eight planning regions. A full councilor, two substitutes and delegates are elected. In addition, nine representatives of entities will also be chosen.
