The School of Councils of Santa Catarina, an extension project of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) in partnership with the State Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents of Santa Catarina (CEDCA/SC), was reactivated in 2024. The objective of the initiative is to offer continuing training for guardianship counselors and other public and private agents who are part of the Child and Adolescent Rights Guarantee System (SGD).
Continuing training is one of the main strategies for strengthening the SGD. Through it, agents can update themselves on legislation, public policies and practices for the full protection of children and adolescents.
The basic cycle at the School of Councils of Santa Catarina lasts 18 months and is divided into 12 modules. The program content covers topics such as:
- Human rights of children and adolescents
- Rights Guarantee System
- Duties and competencies of SGD agents
- Intervention methodologies
- Interinstitutional relations
The target audience for the basic cycle are three guardianship counselors, two rights counselors (governmental and non-governmental) and two professionals from other SGD institutions in each municipality covered by the project.
Throughout 2024, the School of Councils of Santa Catarina will serve 92 municipalities in Santa Catarina, distributed in the West, North, Serrana and Greater Florianópolis mesoregions. The forecast is that, from 2025, the initiative will reach all 295 municipalities in the state.
The continued training offered by the School of Councils of Santa Catarina is an important instrument for strengthening the SGD and guaranteeing the rights of children and adolescents in Santa Catarina.
The project has the support of Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship.
