Two new automatic weather stations came into operation in Canoas. The first of them in the Guajuviras neighborhood, at EMEI Anisio Spinola Teixeira, and the second at EMEF Ministro Rubem Carlos Ludwig, in Mathias Velho. The professional equipment was installed by a specialized company on Wednesday morning (3).
The information generated in real time will be crucial for studies to monitor and monitor weather and climate by the City Hall. Weather stations will be useful for Civil Defense, in order to plan actions and activities, in a preventive manner, in order to mitigate damage caused by possible natural phenomena.
The deputy secretary of the Climate Resilience Office (Eclima), Igor Sousa, highlights the types of information that are obtained through the structures. “The stations have sensors that can measure air humidity and temperature, atmospheric pressure, precipitation volumes, wind speed and direction, ultraviolet radiation and luminosity. With this, it is possible to identify extreme temperature and rainfall variables for issuing meteorological reports and for identifying intense weather conditions,” he said.
Obtained by private companies through a plant compensation agreement, the acquisition of meteorological stations had no cost to the public coffers. In addition to the other two stations installed at the end of last year, in the Niterói and Mato Grande neighborhoods, Eclima now has four automatic stations. The expectation is that two others will be put into operation in the first half of the year.
In addition, Canoas has five rain gauges for measuring rainfall through the National Center for Monitoring and Alerts for Natural Disasters (CEMADEN) and two other complete meteorological stations through an agreement with MetSul Meteorologia.
