In Nova Petrópolis, the Municipal Department of Health and Social Assistance ends 2023 with the waiting list for mammography exams cleared. The information was confirmed by the vice-mayor and secretary responsible for the department, Martim Wissmann, on Tuesday, December 26th. From January 1st of this year to this date, the Municipality booked 1,002 mammograms.
“Women’s health is an extremely relevant topic, and, in this context, mammography exams play a key role. Therefore, by clearing this waiting list, we ensure great progress in prevention and early treatment”, highlights vice-mayor Martim Wissmann.
Still according to him, the Friendship Tea, held annually during Pink October, has been fundamental for offering a sufficient number of breast exams. “With the resources from this collection, we were able to purchase extra tests, in addition to those we already have contracted with the clinics on a monthly basis,” he says. In 2023, the Department of Health maintains contracts for mammography with Hospital Nova Petrópolis and the Medtams clinic.
Held on October 20th this year, the 10th Friendship Tea totaled R$68 thousand in funds raised. The initiative is carried out by the Commercial and Industrial Association of Nova Petrópolis (Acinp), the Order of the Evangelical Ladies Auxiliary (Oase) and the Department of Health and Social Assistance, with the participation of First Lady Elaine Beatriz Wolf.
Other exams
Throughout 2023, the Department of Health also invested in contracting other tests, such as magnetic resonance imaging, tomography, ultrasound, Doppler echocardiography, echocardiography and bone densitometry. The total number of these procedures exceeded 5,500 exams performed. According to Martim Wissmann, such exams are now being carried out more quickly.
Vasectomy
Another waiting list cleared by the Health Department of Nova Petrópolis, in 2023, refers to the vasectomy procedure. The milestone was reached after carrying out 24 procedures in the municipality of Vacaria – a reference in Nova Petrópolis for urology services.
