Goiânia – After the death of a 58-year-old man, in the capital of Goiás, who ate a dessert in a famous sweet shop in the city, his mother, whose age was not revealed, also died in the early hours of this Monday (12/18 ). She was admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), but did not survive. The information was confirmed by her granddaughter, Maria Paula Alves, through social media.
The elderly woman’s son and Maria Paula’s father, Leonardo Alves Ferreira, died this Sunday (17/12), after feeling ill and being hospitalized with abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Through social media, the family member reported that the man had eaten the candy and died less than 12 hours later.
Symptoms of poisoning
According to the police report registered by Leonardo’s wife, Eliane Alves, he, his mother Luzia Alves and their daughter-in-law, Amanda Partata, who is pregnant, ate a dessert at the Perdomo Doces store, around 10am, this Sunday ( 17/12). At around 1 pm, everyone presented symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
Leonardo and his mother were admitted to Hospital Santa Bárbara, in Goiânia, where they remained until he died. Amanda reportedly ingested the product in smaller quantities and returned to her hometown, Itumbiara, in the south of Goiás. However, she must return to the capital in search of medical care.
No confirmation of what caused death
In a note published on social media, Maria Paula Alves, who is a doctor, said that “no one knows for sure what happened. […] If it really is food, there is still a huge range of possibilities that could have happened,” she said.
