Almost four months after being hit by a 150-kilogram machine in a gym in Juazeiro do Norte, in Cariri Ceará, Regilânio da Silva Inácio, aged 42, continues to make progress in his recovery and took his first steps alone during physiotherapy. The video of the moment was shared by him this Friday (1st).
“I can only thank God, my warrior and all the physiotherapists who accompany me in this battle”, says the message that accompanies the images.
Regis suffered a serious spinal injury due to the accident, which happened on August 4th, while he was doing physical activity.
The man, who previously worked as an app driver, had to undergo emergency surgery to place pins to reduce the fracture, perform bone realignment and decompress the spinal cord. The doctors’ assessment at the time was that he had a 1% chance of walking again.
Even with the negative prognosis, Regis continued undergoing physiotherapy, managed to regain sensitivity from the waist down and had already rehearsed his steps when he was able to crawl. Before that, he had already managed to sit up for days after surgery.
Regilânio continues to undergo treatment at the Rede Sarah hospital unit, in Salvador, which offers neurological rehabilitation, orthopedic rehabilitation, children’s rehabilitation and neurorehabilitation for spinal cord injuries.
