In a vote this Tuesday afternoon (28/11), the director of Lactalis do Brasil Guilherme Portella was reappointed to the presidency of the RS Dairy Industry Union (Sindilat/RS) for the 2024/2026 three-year period. Current president of the entity, he was acclaimed on a single ticket, which has Alexandre Guerra, from Cooperativa Santa Clara, as 1st vice-president. The new board still has Alexandre dos Santos (Deale) as 2nd vice-president, with Caio Vianna (CCGL) as secretary director, and Angelo Sartor (RAR) as treasurer director. The election took place during the monthly members’ meeting broadcast in a hybrid format from Sindilat’s headquarters, in Porto Alegre (RS).
According to Portella, one of the main fronts of action will be the search for greater competitiveness for the dairy sector in Rio Grande do Sul. “Our objective is to maintain a firm defense of the milk industries and cooperatives in Rio Grande do Sul in search of better conditions for the development of the activity. We need to work on the production chain together with rural producer entities and the Government on actions that promote productivity, reduce costs and increase domestic consumption. This way, in the medium term, we will be able to produce competitive milk on a global scale, increasing our volume of interstate sales and exports, which should help in the development of the entire State”, he stressed, remembering that the dairy chain generates income in 493 of the 497 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul.
For the executive, who followed the election directly from Laval, France, it is essential to guarantee conditions for the productive sector to continue producing on a competitive basis between the states of the federation, but also to gain strength in the international market, boosting exports today still incipient. “We will only overcome the impact of imports if we are competitive enough to face products that come from abroad”, he indicated. And he said more. Portella believes that the Brazilian dairy sector has a lot to mature. “We need to join forces and gain competitiveness, but to do so, we need concrete actions that transform the productive effort of the chain into profitability for industries and the countryside.”
Among the practical actions to be implemented in the new management is the deepening of scientific studies that prove that milk is an activity with low environmental impact and capable of fixing carbon in the soil. “Gaúcho milk has a differentiated quality and deserves to be recognized both within Rio Grande do Sul and in the rest of Brazil and the world”, he reinforced.
