Last Thursday (23.11), the Caxias do Sul Food Bank, an extension of the Municipal Department of Agriculture (Smapa), organized a special meeting with the Solidarity Saturday Volunteers. The main purpose of the event was to bring volunteers together for an annual review and express gratitude for their dedication throughout the year. “It was a night of thanks and recognition, where we welcomed around 80 volunteers from the entities participating in Solidarity Saturday”, said Luana Mugnaga, manager of Smapa’s Food and Nutrition Security Directorate.
The meeting began with a detailed report, highlighting the results and impacts achieved during the year. At the end of the meeting, the Food Bank team offered a dinner for everyone present, providing a moment of relaxation and fellowship. It was an opportunity for everyone to share experiences, strengthen bonds and recharge their energy for the next Solidarity Saturday.
During the night, the volunteers watched a presentation by the Herdeiros de Palmares Capoeira Group, one of the social entities benefiting from the program. The presentation of the group’s children and teenagers, demonstrating their capoeira skills, not only brought moments of joy, but also served as a gesture of sincere gratitude for the volunteers’ continued dedication to the community.
Solidarity Saturday is an initiative that takes place on the second Saturday of each month. Volunteers from various entities take turns in the city’s supermarkets for a large food collection, encouraging the public to make donations. The food collected is sent to the Food Bank.
The next and last Solidarity Saturday of the year will be on December 9th. The Food Bank and its volunteers count on the support and solidarity of the Caxias community on this last date of the year for a large collection.
