In Flores da Cunha, rain from the storm in the early hours of Saturday, the 18th, caused losses to agriculture that reached R$70 million. According to data collected by the Department of Agriculture, Emater and the Union of Family Farmers Workers of Flores da Cunha and Nova Pádua, more than 5 thousand hectares of productive area were affected, with an average estimate of 30% losses.
Several crops suffered damage, mainly: grapes, peaches, plums, persimmons, onions and garlic. Greenhouses, warehouses and poultry houses, production roads and local water supplies were also compromised.
The City Council continues working to remedy all the damage caused in various regions of the city. The most urgent cases have already been or are being treated with priority. Due to these adverse weather events, the mayor, César Ulian, declared an emergency situation for the municipality on Saturday morning, the 18th.
More than 550 families were affected in the municipality and had problems with roof damage. Almost 24 thousand m² of tarpaulins were distributed by City Hall at the Fire Department headquarters.
The mayor, César Ulian, states that at all times the municipal administration is close to the Florense community. “No matter how difficult this moment is for everyone, little by little, we are rebuilding things, helping each other. We sympathize with all the families who were affected and always make ourselves available. We are all together”, concludes Ulian.
The Public Works and Services department has already mapped 32 points of damage in various locations, with infrastructure problems. The work is done by servers with the help of trucks, backhoes, among other machinery. So far, only the road that connects the municipality to Otávio Rocha remains blocked.
According to the ministry’s secretary, Lucas Carenhato, this task force should continue for two months due to such demand and recorded incidents. “Other routine City Hall services and the schedule will be carried out later”, says Carenhato.
During the last few days, services to clear roads and drainage systems have been intensified, as well as removing fallen trees and debris from the streets. The average rainfall recorded during the storm exceeded 240 mm, a high volume for a short period of time, overloading the rainwater drainage systems. However, the accumulation reached 350 mm only between the 13th and 19th of November.
The damage also affected the electricity supply. According to Rio Grande Energia (RGE), 15 light posts were damaged and 30 power outages were recorded. The Riograndense Sanitation Company (Corsan) reports that six pumping stations were compromised due to a lack of power and/or broken water mains.
