The Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) hosts the 4th edition of Mamaço this Sunday (26th). The event is supported by the City Hall, through the Department of Health, and the Municipal Commission for Human Breastfeeding and Healthy Complementary Food. The activities, all free, mark the end of State Baby Week, which began on November 19th.
From 3pm to 5pm, in the space in front of the UFSM planetarium, in Camobi, there will be a Shantala workshop (Indian massage for babies), a Sling workshop (you need to bring your elastic) and dental and speech therapy guidance for babies, as well as music live and much more.
According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), breastfeeding, in addition to being protective for babies and young children, is also responsible for creating bonds between mother and child. According to the Municipality’s nurse, Tainah de Oliveira Guerra, Mamaço is the ideal place to create lasting connections.
“Breastfeeding is not a purely technical act, it involves culture, popular knowledge and, of course, the connection between the person breastfeeding and their baby. We want to bring together people who are breastfeeding, allowing them to create their own support network and exchange experiences”, says the nurse.
The event is supported by the Regional Committee for Breastfeeding and Healthy Complementary Food of the 4th Regional Health Coordination (4th CRS) and has the participation of professionals and students from UFSM capable of helping families in the breastfeeding phase.
