The Canela Department of Environment and Urbanism carried out two actions in the last few days to help rebuild the local fauna.
Last Friday (17), employees Alekos Elefthérios Dinas de Siqueira and Diana Dellagnese delivered two owl chicks to the Gramado Zoo. The animals were found on a farm in the interior of Canela and taken to the Department of the Environment, where they received their first care.
On Monday (20), the team introduced two possums into the wild. The animals spent two months under the care of the department’s technicians until they were able to return to their natural environment.
“The soft release technique consists of building a den where the animals gradually become accustomed to wild life. The site will be monitored to obtain information about the technique and living conditions of the possums”, explains biologist and technical advisor Alekos Siqueira.
