The Brazilian Geological Survey (SGB) resumed, on Monday (13), the alert operation of the Hydrological Alert System of the Rio Caí Basin, in Rio Grande do Sul. Due to the large volume of rain observed in the region, the The river level has risen and continues to rise. Forecasts indicate that, this Tuesday (14), the “flood quota” will be exceeded in the municipalities of Montenegro and São Sebastião do Caí.
These bulletins present water level forecasts for the next few hours, as well as information about rainfall. With the instrument, the SGB informs about the elevation levels that the river should reach in the municipalities and makes it possible to anticipate scenarios in the cities located in the basins. In this way, the SGB assists civil defenses and municipal bodies in prevention and support activities for populations affected by floods.

Through Reference Quotas, the SGB informs about the impacts associated with river levels.
- Attention Quota: moderate possibility of flooding;
- Alert Quota: high possibility of flooding;
- Flood Level: first damages can be observed in the municipality.
