Pregnant with João Gomes, influencer Ary Mirelle underwent an emergency uterine cerclage this Wednesday. The procedure involves sewing the cervix together to reduce the risk of premature birth. The 22-year-old influencer is 27 weeks pregnant and was discharged from hospital this Thursday morning.
Urgent uterine cerclage is indicated for women with cervical insufficiency, that is, the woman’s inability to sustain a full-term pregnancy due to a functional or structural defect of the cervix. The opening and shortening of the cervix are factors that can cause premature birth or miscarriage.
The indication is that the cerclage is performed between 12 and 16 weeks of gestation. Cases like Ary’s are considered emergencies.
On social media, the influencer announced that the surgery was successful and celebrated her and her son’s health. “The surgery went well, thank God Jorge and I are fine.” In the post, she also thanked her boyfriend, singer João Gomes. “Thank you, my love, for not letting go of my hand and not stopping talking for a second,” she wrote.
Although it is considered a low-risk procedure, it is recommended that the pregnant woman remains under observation.
In Ary’s case, the risk of contractions and bleeding was monitored. After discharge, rest is recommended and may include the need for sexual abstinence. Additionally, prenatal follow-up appointments should be performed as normal to monitor the status of the cerclage.
