The city of Ivoti has intensified its request that owners try to avoid taking their animals out into public environments in order to avoid sporotrichosis, a disease characterized by lesions and mucous membranes on the skin, which can affect animals and humans.
The disease, which has treatment and can be cured, is caused by contact with the fungus of the genus Sporothrix, found in soil, plants and wounds of already contaminated animals. In addition to humans, the pathology mainly affects cats.
Symptoms
According to the Secretary of the Environment, Ismael Petry, the symptoms are different from people to animals. In cats, signs of the disease appear in deep lesions on the skin, mainly on the head and snout. However, injuries can occur in the rest of the body and are difficult to heal.
In humans, the most common symptoms are nodules, skin lesions and ulcers that do not heal. Generally, the nodules appear in the place where the infected animal was scratched or bitten.
If the person or animal has symptoms, the recommendation is that medical advice be sought and contact be made with the Health Surveillance, by number (51) 3563-6855.
