The municipality of São Leopoldo had 1435 protective measures granted by the courts until the end of October, ordering the aggressors to be removed from the victims. In the same period, 734 police reports were registered regarding violence against women, involving one femicide, three attempted femicides, 30 rapes, 284 bodily injuries and 416 threats.
“This data contains women’s life stories, and there is still a lot of underreporting. The severity is much greater”, says psychologist Thaís Pereira, who coordinates the Todas Vivas! to improve care in the reception network for women victims of violence in this municipality in Vale do Sinos. This Thursday, 9/11, specialized training ends for professionals who are part of teams that assist women victims of violence in São Leopoldo. “Professionals need to be sensitized on a permanent basis so that women feel safe and welcomed, access services and can leave situations of violence”, highlights the coordinator of the training that will take place at the City Hall Management School, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
This activity will address the form of reception, protocols and service flows. The project began in July, addressing all aspects surrounding the topic with eight meetings. A guide with all the content will be released on December 1st.
“Increasingly, cruelty intensifies. Women are beheaded, burned, murdered with clubs, beaten for a whole night without receiving help from anyone and left on the street to die, among other extremely cruel ways. Brazil is the 5th country in the world that kills the most women because of their gender and the country that kills the most trans people, most of them trans women and transvestites”, warns the specialist in gender violence.
RS issues an average of 459 Protective Measures per day
In Rio Grande do Sul, a woman is attacked every 22 minutes and a feminicide occurs every four days. On average, 459 Protective Measures are issued daily in the state, even with this enormous volume, only 20% of femicide victims in 2022 had this protection. In 2022, there were 110 femicides and another 262 attempts recorded. In a decade, there are more than a thousand victims in RS. In Brazil, a gender-based murder occurs every seven hours.
The Todas Vivas! project is aimed at teams working in health, safety, social assistance, justice, the Women’s Rights Council, defenders and activists of the feminist movement to promote humanized and welcoming care.
In addition to the course, the project carries out a diagnosis of the coping network and provides management advice. “Compared to many municipalities, São Leopoldo has a well-structured network to welcome this public”, points out the specialist.
The All Alive Project! is a partnership between the NGO Coletivo Feminino Plural and the City of São Leopoldo through the Secretariat of Policies for Women (Sepom), made possible through a parliamentary amendment by Federal Deputy Maria do Rosário.
